John doesn’t remember when he took his first picture.  He does remember his first camera which he got around the age of nine or ten, a Kodak Instamatic 126.  He started shooting with a 35mm when he was sixteen and has been shooting since then.

In his college years John started shooting country and rock bands.  It was a perfect fit for a college kid who loved live music.  John also shot pictures of weddings, school graduations, proms, family reunions, portraits, commercial products and for several newspapers.  After college, life lead John in a different direction, but he continued shooting landscapes, his family and anything that caught his eye.

As much at  home in the darkroom as he is behind a camera John has developed miles of film and printed hundreds of pictures. He has shot with everything from a 110 Pocket Instamatic camera to a 4 x 5 view camera.   Today the film cameras and darkroom equipment have been stored and replaced with digital cameras and  computers.  However, John says one day he get his old cameras out and shoot some film.

There is never a day when John doesn’t take at least one picture.  It might just be for his “365 day” project or when going for a walk.  “No matter where I am, I can go for a walk and end up shooting 50-100 pictures.”  says John.  “It helps me to keep my eyes sharp looking for a good shot. It also helps that I have a very understanding family. We’ll be driving down a road and suddenly I’ll pull over or turn around, go back to a spot and jump out of the car with my camera. And start shooting.  They don’t even ask what I’m doing any longer.  I guess you could say, I’m always looking for a picture.” There is never a time when John doesn’t have at least one camera with him.

John has been published in newspapers, magazines websites and corporate reports.  His photographs hang in homes and offices around the country.
